Hodad's

Have you ever watched Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives?   Well we do around here sometimes, and unfortunately, it is usually right before bed.   I say unfortunately because it has been the cause for a lot of late night cravings.  For those of you that haven't seen this show, it is on the food network and it is hosted by Guy Fieri who also hosts Minute to Win it.  People write in telling about places where they live that have the best Steak or Breakfast or Chili etc...  And Guy travels around and sees how everything is made and then does some taste testing to see if it lives up to the hype. One of the places featured on this show just happens to be only an hour away from where we live, so of course we had to check it out. That place is called Hodad's.

I would consider Hodad's to be described as a dive. It is a small restaurant a couple blocks up from the beach and it sits right next to a liquor store. The area itself was kind of sketchy, but EVERYONE apparently, knows about Hodad's

This was the line we had to wait in to get a seat. I think it took us about 45 minutes to finally get in. There were a couple of  "Nay Sayers"  who walked by letting us (the food sheep) know that it was only a hamburger. Those people were quickly evil eyed by everyone in the front of the line who were almost done putting in their time. I have to admit I was losing my cool after a while, but it was only because my one and a half year old daughter wanted to run off and would whine and cry when we held her. (Another reminder why we are waiting to go to Disneyland).

Once we got inside my frustration fell away and I was able to take in the scenery. The walls were covered with license plates from all over.  Most of them had different phrases or expressions hidden in them.

"It Hurt" I thought this one was pretty clever.
The next one is just of a nickname we sometimes call Morgan.

Our food was pretty darn good!  I got a single cheeseburger and I still have to take some veggies out so I could fit my mouth around it. They load you up with crisp tomatos and onions...and whew...it is a lot!  Their fries and the onion ring that accidentally fell into my basket were good too. I would definitely recommend Hodad's to a friend.  I didn't get any pictures of our burgers, but I did snap a shot of our chocolate milkshake.

Look at that chunk of ice cream sticking out of the top! Yum, I would say it tasted like rocky road ice cream without the nuts and marshmallows. :)

After our awesome and completely filling meal, we decided to walk around Ocean Beach for a little bit. So we started on the side walk and ended up on some rock formations.

It was a nice way to spend the day together as a family.
